Alexis Pauline Gumbs

Alexis Pauline Gumbs is a community cherished Black feminist writer and scholar. She is the author of several books, most recently the award-winning biography Survival Is a Promise: The Eternal Life of Audre Lorde (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2024) and Undrowned: Black Feminist Lessons from Marine Mammals (AK Press, 2020), and co-editor of Revolutionary Mothering Love on the Frontlines (PM Press, 2016). Her latest book, Primary: After and with Alma Thomas, comes out from Yale University Press in September 2026.
