Lisa Harries Schumann

Lisa Harries Schumann is a translator of German whose work ranges from texts by the cultural critic Walter Benjamin—published in Radio Benjamin (Verso, 2014)—to documents on the persecution of Elvis fans by East German police to music critiques written in Terezín concentration camp, which were translated for Mark Ludwig’s book Our Will to Live (Steidl, 2021). With a history degree from the University of Hamburg, she is captivated by stories ignored by history and buried by families. She is currently working to capture that obsession through her short stories and a novel-in-progress about exiles from Nazi Germany in America and dreams.
