“Sentences, Thought Processes, and Lydia Davis” by Eileen John

Eileen John of the University of Warwick, United Kingdom, is the Daniel F. Breeden Eminent Visiting Scholar in the College of Liberal Arts at Auburn University during the 2023 fall semester. John is professor of philosophy and co-director of the Centre for Research in Philosophy, Literature and the Arts at the University of Warwick, United Kingdom. She is internationally-recognized as a philosopher of art, especially for her work on how literature engages us both as thinkers and as moral agents. John will teach a capstone seminar in the Department of Philosophy and participate in several campus and community events. John earned her doctorate in philosophy from the University of Michigan and served as assistant and associate professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Louisville from 1993-2005, when she began serving as associate professor at the University of Warwick.
