The Georgia Review (GR) is excited to announce its partnership with the University of Nebraska Press (UNP) to continue its Georgia Review Books series. Under series editor Gerald Maa, director and editor of GR, the series publishes work embodying the GR ethos that “communities thrive when built on dialogue that honors the difference between any two interlocutors.”
The first book in the collaboration will be Daniela Danz’s Portolan, translated from the German by Monika Cassel. The poetry collection will be published January 1, 2027, and will be the first English translation of Danz, who recently won the Literaturpreis der Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung. “We’re especially pleased to begin this new chapter with Portolan, a work as ambitious and globally resonant as the series itself,” Jane Ferreyra, director of UNP, said. Portolan is available for pre-order now.
March will see the release of both lawrence-minh bùi davis’s debut novel, GHOST OI, and a translation of Édouard Glissant’s novel Tout-Monde by Matt Reeck from the French.
GR and UNP share a commitment to wide-ranging, innovative writing. “When first approached about the series, I was sold on the mission statement ‘to challenge us to reconsider any line, distinction, or thought in danger of becoming too rigid or neat,’” remarked UNP acquisitions editor Courtney Ochsner.
Maa said he was “excited and thankful for the opportunity to continue the Georgia Review Books with the University of Nebraska Press.” The series had been published in partnership with the University of Georgia Press from 2018 to 2024. Past works in the series include Brandon Som’s Tripas which won the Pulitzer Prize, and Marylyn Tan’s Gaze Back which won the Singapore Literature Prize. As Ferreyra said, “This is a series with a real reputation for quality, discernment, and depth, and we’re proud to give it a home.”
