John Lysaker is the William R. Kenan University Professor at Emory University and director of the Emory Center for Ethics. He works in ethics, aesthetics, and philosophical psychology, with a focus on conditions that enable as well as frustrate human flourishing. Recent books include Hope, Trust, and Forgiveness: Essays in Finitude (The University of Chicago Press, 2023), Philosophy, Writing, and the Character of Thought (The University of Chicago Press, 2018), and After Emerson (Indiana University Press, 2017).
