Karen Tei Yamashita is the author of nine books, including I Hotel (2010), finalist for the National Book Award, and most recently, Dark Soil: Fictions & Mythographies (2024), all published by Coffee House Press. Recipient of the National Book Foundation’s 2021 Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters and a Ford Foundation Fellowship, she is currently a professor emerita of literature and creative writing at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
